Mind, Brain, and Education
The field of MBE began at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education under the leadership of Dr. Kurt Fisher who saw the power of uniting the fields of neuroscience, psychology, and education. Fisher saw that, unlike other professions, education had a gap between research and practice. He believed, and we agree, that educators should understand cognitive science, learning, and the brain. They should understand the structures and function of learning just as a cardiologist should understand the structure and function of the heart. So, what does this mean in our approach to learning at Breck?
Rather than thinking about teaching AND learning, we focus on teaching FOR learning and believe in pulling back the curtain on learning for our students.
